Mill Creek

Mill Creek MapMill Creek originates in Olathe and flows north under Kansas State Route 10 (K-10), Shawnee Mission Parkway, and finally past the Johnson County landfill before flowing into the Kansas River. The stream is bordered for most of its length by a heavily used rail corridor. Urban land use (developed) for the watersheds above each monitoring site is 83.1%, 61.8% and 81.6% (Sites 1, 2, and 3 respectively), with associated percent impervious cover of 28.1%, 25.5% and 32.9%.

The Urban Monitoring Network consists of three sites, two on Mill Creek and one on Little Mill Creek near its confluence with Mill Creek. Site 1 (the downstream site) is located upstream of Shawnee Mission Parkway on the Little Mill Creek tributary at the Midland access of the Mill Creek Streamway Park. Two additional sites are located further upstream, both on Mill Creek. Site 2 (the middle site) is located upstream of the 87th Lane bridge at the streamway park the 87th Lane park access. The most upstream site (Site 3) is located near 114th Street at the Northwood Trails park access.
